Telling the kids

I wanted to tell the kids in a fun way and after talking to my sister on Monday she said do what I did and have a baby party. I said a baby party? she said yeah and she told me what they did.

I wanted to do this for family home evening but didn't have time to go get the stuff I needed so I was going to do it Tuesday well didn't happen we had dance and then last night we had scouts and gymnastics so it happened tonight.

After the kids got home from school and got all their stuff done, I asked them if they wanted to go on a scavenger hunt to find out a secret and then gave them each a piece of paper (one at a time so I could take pictures) with something written on it.

Andren had item #1
His item was a blanket
He found a perfect blue baby blanket.

Daxton had item #2
The kids all hovered around waiting to see what he had to find.
A binky. I figured this would be easy for him since he knows right where his is.
Sure enough he came back with his binky.

Kendon had item #3
A rattle. He was a little confused with this one and Andren tried to help by giving him a rattle snake. But when I told him that wasn't right he figured out the kind that I meant
with a little bit of digging he was able to find one ( I thought that I had put them all away I guess not)

Bricanie had item #4
She had to find a diaper. Judging by the look on her face I think she is putting the whole thing together and knows the secret.
She was able to find a diaper with no problems.

Kierra had item #5 and our final item
An envelope with their names on it, which she found before I could take the picture.
She was able to figure out just what it was when she opened the envelope and despite the look on her face she was excited.

After they all figured it out the first question was do you know what it is?  When I told them yes they all started jumping around and said "tell us tell us" but first I made them put in their guesses

Bricanie - BOY because every time she says girl we get a boy
Kierra- Girl cause she made a wish in a  book that she made a school last year to have a baby sister
Kendon- Girl he didn't say why he voted this way
Andren- Boy cause he DOES NOT want a sister
Daxton- Girl, I am guess it is because that is the last option the kids gave them.

So for them to figure out what we were having I wrapped different items in pink and blue tissue paper and gave them each one to open.
Now the trick was to get them to open them all at the same time.

I was trying to take a picture of Kierra and Andren opening theirs, but Kierra was so excited that she was jumping up and down before I could take the picture.
Can you tell by the look on his face that he is not happy at all.

So if you haven't figured out what we are having yet here is another little clue
still need some help? (yes I know it is crooked)
did you figure it out yet?

if not here is a more obvious one.
These are the things I wrapped up and gave to each of the kids to open.

Oh Bricanie was so excited that she threw her stuff across the room cause she was jumping up and down so much.

Well since we are having a "baby party" why not eat dinner with pink napkins, forks, and spoons, and have a cute center piece in the middle of the table.
It's a girl candy mints

And what is a party with out a cake?
Nothing fancy but it is a pink cake with pink frosting and pink toppers.

I love this idea and had fun doing it. I would probably change a few things if I was given a re-do, but since I will not be doing another "baby party" this one will have to do.
